The Tahitian Drumming
class is led by Aileen’s husband, Francis Gaspar. He first began
drumming in the early 1990’s while Aileen was dancing with Auntie Rose
Lokelani Thomas. However, Francis’ interest in playing the ukulele was
too strong and he stopped drumming for several years. Francis began
drumming again when Aileen opened up the halau.
Francis continues to
develop his skills and has taken workshops with Sam Almira, 2001; Reggie
Aranda, Hulalaule’a Polynesian Dance and Music Workshops 2003; Lloyd
Chandler, Tahiti Fete of San Jose Tahitian drumming workshop, July 2003
and 2004; Rick San Nicholas, 2005.
